2011 SERIES INFO: Last season, the Knights went 4-4 against the Buffalo Bisons in their season series. Each team won two games at Knights Stadium and each team won two games at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY.
2012 SERIES INFO: The two teams will meet for game two tonight at Knights Stadium. After this series, the two teams will have one more series in Buffalo, NY from July 20-23.
Walk It Off: Friday night’s 3-2 10th inning victory over Buffalo was the third walk-off win in as many days for the Knights. Two of those were Wednesday as they completed Tuesday’s rain-suspended game and won it in 14 innings with a base hit by Dan Johnson. In the regularly scheduled game for Wednesday, Charlotte came back from down 5-2 in the 9th for the second time in a week to win on a hit by Jim Gallagher as the clock struck midnight.
Major League Rehab: Jesse Crain made his first ML rehab of the season and tossed a scoreless frame. He threw 21 pitches, 14 for strikes and stuck-out one batter and hit one.
Dr. K: Terry Doyle came in for the second inning after Jesse Crain made a Major League rehab start and Doyle was on his game. He struck out 10 Buffalo batters in 5.1 innings of work and only allowed one run. The 10 strikeouts would have been season-high for a Charlotte starter this year, but he technically did not start the game due to Crain’s rehab assignment. The Knights struck out a season-high 15 Bisons on the night.
Septimo Sets ‘em Down: Leyson Septimo continues to get the job done for the Knights out of the ‘pen. Friday night he pitched another scoreless 1.2 innings and struck out three. He has not allowed a run this season in 16.1 innings over nine games. Left-handed hitters are batting .087 against Septimo this season.
Twice the Hero: Hector Gimenez tried to be the hero in the eighth inning last night with a tie-breaking home run. The lead did not hold in the ninth so he had to try it again. He came through with a two-out base hit to right field that scored Greg Golson, who had led off the inning with a double. Hector was 3-for-5 on the night.
Get On and Get In: For the second time in three days, Greg Golson scored the game-winning run on Friday night for the Knights. He led off the tenth inning with his second double of the night and scored his second run of the night on Hector Gimenez’ base hit with two outs. Wednesday, in the completion of a rain-suspended game, Golson scored the game-winning run in the 14th on a double by Dan Johnson. He has scored six runs in the first five games of the homestand. Golson is currently second in the International League in hits with 41.
Get On and Get Others In: Dan Johnson drove home Greg Golson with the game’s first run Friday night in the first inning. The RBI was the 11th game out of the last 14 that he has driven in a run. He also drove home Golson with the winning run in the 14th inning on Wednesday. Johnson is listed as having six home runs and 28 RBI but he has another homer and three RBI from a suspended game inLehighValley that will be completed on May 24. He is 7-for-18 on the homestand with four RBI. Johnson extended his hitting streak to eight and he is first in the IL in on-base percentage at .483. He has eight more walks on the homestand to give him 34 for the year, which also leads the IL.
Ducks Stuck on the Pond: Not only did Knights pitchers set a season-high by striking out 15 batters Friday night, but onceBuffalo did get runners on base they were stranded there. Charlotte held the Bisons to a 2-9 performance with runners in scoring position.
