Knights Face Bulls in Finale at 1:05 PM…
SERIES INFO: Last season, the Bulls went 12-9 against the Knights in the overall series. Earlier this season at the Knights lost two of three games to the Bulls at the DBAP (April 9-11). Knights During their next meeting (4/16-4/19) the Knights went on to sweep the Bulls by winning all four games in the series. In the opener of this series, the Knights beat the Bulls 7-1 and had won five-straight games against the Bulls at that point this season. On Sunday, in game two of this series, the Bulls got the better of the Knights and snapped their five-game losing streak against Charlotte with a 6-0 win. Durham, thanks to a walk-off hit by Hideki Matsui, beat the Knights on Monday by a score of 3-2. The Knights are now 6-4 against Durham this season. Overall, the Bulls lead the All-Time series 118-93.
ERA Leaders: Knights RHP Dylan Axelrod is the ERA leader in the IL with an impressive 0.95 mark. Axelrod, who is 3-1 on the season, has also appeared in three games with the White Sox this season. The next closest ERA mark in the IL is second-place pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes, who has a 2.09 mark. Axelrod is scheduled to pitch during the Knights next series (vs. Lehigh Valley). Last night’s starter Charlie Leesman did not allow a run in four innings and lowered his ERA to 2.36 on the season. That mark is good for fourth best in the IL.
Walk this Way: Dan Johnson added two more walks last night to his International League leading total. He now has 41 on the season – three more than Toledo’s Matt Young (38). Johnson has drawn a walk in 27 of the 44 games he’s played in this season and has walked at least two times in a game on 13 different occasions. He had three walks on 4/15.
Thrice is Nice: Tyler Kuhn had this third three-hit game of the season last night and went 3-4 with a double – his 10th of the season. It was also Kuhn’s ninth multi-hit game of the season. He began the season by hitting in six-straight games (seven dating back to last season). Kuhn is now hitting .346 with one home run and two RBIs over his last seven games.
I’ll Have the Veal: Donnie Veal has been sharp this season out of the bullpen for the Knights. Last night, Veal allowed one unearned run over two innings out of the pen. He has now He has allowed just three earned runs over 20 innings pitched this season. He has not allowed an earned run over his last eight appearances (10.1 IP).
On Base: Hector Gimenez walked in the ninth inning on Monday and with that he has now reached base in 30 of 33 games this season. His walk turned into the game-tying run in the ninth inning as Jordan Danks doubled him home.
Ray of Light: Ray Olmedo extended his season-high hit streak to four games with a single last night.
Day in Durham: The Knights and Bulls will meet for the final time in a day game today from Durham. The two teams will still face each other in Durham, but they are all night games. The Knights will look for a series split today in the finale. The Knights will look to get their 12th win on the road this season when they face the Bulls today.
A Look Ahead to Lehigh Valley: The Knights and the IronPigs will resume their suspended game from May 4 in Allentown, PA on May 24 at Knights Stadium. While the Knights will host the ‘Pigs in that game, Charlotte will technically be the road team. The game will resume in the top of the fourth inning with two outs and a runner on second base with the game tied 3-3. The two teams will then play their regularly scheduled four-game series. Charlotte has had two games suspended this season.
