2012 SERIES INFO: The Knights and Clippers started a four-game series on Monday and it was the Knights who got the game one win 5-2. The two teams played a four-game series over last weekend in Columbus and split the series two games apiece. After losing the first two games of their season series to the Clippers, the Knights posted three-straight victories after winning the final two games of their series in Columbus and the first here in Fort Mill. Charlotte dropped game two on Tuesday night by a score of 13-2. The Clippers had 19 hits. Charlotte starter Anthony Carter allowed eight runs on eight hits over 2.1 innings pitched. In game three on Wednesday, the Knights and Clippers battled in a 10-inning affair. The Clippers scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning and went on for the 5-3 victory.
Vs. Clippers: Hector Gimenez is hitting .471 with one home run and five RBIs in five games against Columbus. Dan Johnson is hitting .357 with three home runs and six RBIs against the Clippers this season (seven games). Tyler Kuhn is hitting .348 with three doubles and two RBIs in six games.
With A Win Tonight: The Charlotte Knights will earn a split of their season series with Columbus. After a loss in each of the past two games, the Knights are looking to go 4-4 against Columbus this season. They are currently 3-4. They went 2-6 last season against the Clippers.
ROSTER MOVES: RHP Zach Stewart, who was optioned to the Knights on Tuesday, will join the club today. Earlier today, the Knights sent INF Kyle Shelton to Winston Salem (A) and Santos Rodriguez back to Double-A Birmingham. Stewart was 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 18 games (1 start) with the White Sox. He appeared in one game with the Knights last season.
Rehabbing: White Sox OF Kosuke Fukudome is expected to continue his rehab assignment tonight with the Knights, in what would be his fourth game with the club. The Japanese outfielder is 2-10 in three games so far for the Knights. The Japanese outfielder is recovering from a strained right oblique. In his first game with Charlotte, he went 1-2 in two at-bats. Fukudome began his rehab assignment on 6/18. Fukudome is the fourth White Sox player to rehab this season. He joins Brent Morel, Jesse Crain and John Danks as the others.
Four Hit-Game: Conor Jackson had his second four-hit game of the season last night. Charlotte’s outfielder went 4-5 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. His last four-hit effort came back on April 13 when he was 4-7 with an RBI at Norfolk. Since being activated off of the disabled list, Jackson has an RBI in three of his four games.
Triple the Excitement: OF Greg Golson ripped his sixth triple of the season on Thursday – his only hit of the afternoon, as he went 1-5 to extend his hit-streak to eight straight games. The Austin, Texas-born Golson is now tied for second in the International League in triples. He’s two behind leader Starling Marte (IND). Golson is tied for the IL lead in hits (82) with Ernesto Mejia (GWN).
Looking Ahead: The Knights will hit the road and begin a 12-game road trip on Friday. Charlotte will face Rochester (6/22-6-25), Pawtucket (6-26-6-29) and Gwinnett (6/30-7-3) before coming back to open a five-game homestand on July 4th. That will be the final series before the IL All-Star Break, which is from 7/9-7/11. Charlotte then opens a four-game series at home on 7/12 with Durham.
Charles in Charge of…ERA: LHP Charlie Leesman (7-4, 2.20) will get the ball in Friday’s opening game in Rochester. The Ohio native is currently the ERA leader in the IL with an impressive 2.20 mark. He is tied for second in the IL in wins (7).
