Game One is Tonight!

Game One of the Governors’ Cup Finals Set for Tonight in Pawtucket

The Charlotte Knights (83-61) will face the Pawtucket Red Sox (79-65) in game one of the Governors’ Cup Finals tonight at 7:05 p.m. from Pawtucket, RI. Each team won their first round series three-games-to-one. For the Knights, this is the third time in franchise history that they will be playing in the Governors’ Cup Finals. In both of their appearances, the Knights have gone on to take home the title (1993 and 1999).

LHP Charlie Leesman (12-10, 2.47) will take the ball for the Knights in tonight’s opening game. Leesman (1-0, 1.13) tossed eight impressive innings in game one of the first round to beat the Indianapolis Indians. Tonight, the Cincinnati, OH native will make his second start of the 2012 postseason. He finished second during the regular season in ERA (2.47) and was a 2012 International League All-Star.

RHP Steven Wright (0-1, 3.15) will toe the rubber for the PawSox. Wright did not pitch in round one of the playoffs. He faced the Knights on August 24 at Knights Stadium and allowed two runs (one earned) over four innings and was charged with the loss.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. Fans can listen to the call from the “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad on 94.3 FM WRHI and online at www.charlotteknights.com.
